Hello 2008

| | Comments (0)

Last bit of 2007 has past. It has been a year of change for me. I worked hard to overcome some of the toughest challenges, and made some difficult decisions and sacrifices for them.
Lets brave 2008 with smiling faces again. I'm ready. Hello 2008.

New Years Eve 2007

| | Comments (0)

Spent it with some of the new friends I've made this year. We hung out at China Doll, amongst us, a radio host from EZ fm, Columbia student alum president, and of course Nick and Zhi Yang. I'm... the only single guy in this picture, hehe. Thats... great :-/

Then countdown at Block 8. I was actually in the elevator going up when new year arrived. he place went out of electricity when we arrived, and soon everyone tried to get out. Exit was packed.

hou shuang in nanshan.jpg

Nicholas and friends invited me for a skiing trip to NanShan Skiing resort. Hou Shuang was brave enough to take this endeavor. For you gossipy people in Ogilvy, isn't this just one more juicy story for you to pass on :), ooooh "goodie goodie" right?. Well, we're good friends, and I had fun with her. She's such a sweet heart, skiing with Nick's girl friend as me and Nick set out to the harder course, never whined and complained, loved that about a girl. Nick, sorry, gloves kept me from taking pictures of you and your GF, and besides guys taking pictures of each other on top of a hard course is a bit gay, hehe. Next time I guess.

Kerry Center really has the best view to this construction site. This is taken from the Toyota office in Kerry Center. The nick named "trousers building" will be the third tallest structure in the city.

Helvetica from plexifilm

helvetica documentary.jpg

I finally watched this dvd, its brilliant. I personally don't really like the typeface, its a well designed typeface, but, as some of the designers pointed out, its over used, therefore, loses its freshness. Thank god england still reserves to Gil sans, and... I mean, if you're really into it, they also have that slightly goofier Johnston 22 for their tube stations, but I mean, see? Because its a bit goofy, its not being used in a lot of places, therefore, it retains its personality and eccentricity, thats what counts in today's world.

I loved how this dvd also talks about the roots of Helvetica, I got to finally see the inside of Linotype foundry, amongst other really really cool things, IF you're into design that is, hehe. Sagmeister has a bit in the DVD, glad I met him in Beijing.

Best take on Helvetica:" Its well balanced, a perfect harmony of push and pull, positive and negative space."

Worst take on Helvetica:" Look at it, the "O" has the same proportion as the "Y" its not designed with a personality, its an army!"

Chrismas Songs.

A single female friend of mine (SFF): Have you got any Christmas songs?

Me: Hmm.. Lisa Ono's, I like her.

(SFF): I've got that, I like her too.

Me: Are we still going to that cheese place today?

(SFF): No, sorry, I haven't gotten you a date yet.

(SFF): You have any good singles?

Me: Well, I do if you do, ;-)

(SFF): -_-, I mean the songs.

Me: O.haha.

Jessica initiated a snowboarding trip to this past Sunday. It was an well thought plan, lift ticket is free, and so is the 2 hour bus ride to the place. 7 of us are all motivated and ready. I waited all week for it, on Saturday, I woke up early, took my brand new board I bought last spring and took it to fit a kick ass biding. Then, of course, Jessica got sick, Du Yi have to take care of her, and one by one, EVERYONE bails on the trip. Absolutely no one wanted to be any part of it despite my best effort to sway them. I told them how fun it would be, how cheap it is, but... nope, absolutely nobody wanted it to go.

Ok, So I thought to my self, maybe I don't have a circle of friends in beijing that would do anything anytime any day with me. I'm in some way still very much alone and without a support system here. I met a lot of people I liked, initially through work, and then through co-workers, new friends, and friends' friends. I was treated nicely, but... when all things are said and done, I was never really an insider, nor person to be trusted...

Just when I started to get depressed though, Wei Ling called, and out of all the people, she gave me a simple "sure" without even asking when and where it would be. What an fucking awesome girl! We had fun that day, thanks Wei Ling :), it really meant a lot to me :), You... are in my circle of trust now, hehe.

O, and I loved my board, it was hard to control in the beginning, but, later on, it worked out. Its a burton vapor, yeah, I know, i'm not THAT good, but what can I say, I'm into it, hehe.

Jessica's wedding Luncheon. As unbelievable as it sounds, I have a picture of the bride chewing on what appears to be a S&M type of horse bit (reins included).
