More sweet Chinese bureaucracy

passport 3.jpg

After 11 visas to various places, my 32 page PRC passport is full. Logically, a visa, plus entry / exit stamps on the opposing page would amount to 22 pages. All US entry stamps are on a fresh two-page-spread, so that would make the expired pages to 24 pages. The Chinese border police don't really care, my Chinese entry / exit stamps are stamped ALL OVER THE PLACE, they love my blank pages. Why does this matter you ask? Well, today, I just got the word that I need visa to go to Paris, and to add pages to my passport, I am not able to have that processed in Beijing, where I currently live, I need to go back to my birth place in China and do it there, or, I can go back to my residence, Los Angeles to do it. What The Fuck Is Wrong With This Country...

Jarhead

JARHEAD.jpg

One thing I enjoy very much about China is the fact that you get to watch movies for cheap. For less than a buck, I picked up Jarhead last night, and boy what a nice comment on America. Jake Gylenhall has again done a fabulous job, so has Peter Sasgaard, always thought he was a solid performer. Watch out for the Full metal jecket reference in bootcamp scenes, and the scene where they're in the lit oil fields, they're absolutely clever.

civic center station, Los Angeles 1.jpg

I'm always facinated with the public infrastructure in various parts of the world. They're a very basic and fundamental reflection of how people in the region lives. I often compare NY, Tokyo, and Beijing, by referencing their public transportation systems. Having lived in LA for half of my life, I finally decided to check it out, and here are some pictures.

red capital, beijing 1.jpg

The red capital is a restaurant that claims to have chefs that cooked for chinese high ranking officials. It is a small Chinese court yard in "dong si jiu tiao", with an old "red flag" limousine parked outside.
